Those Incenses have been created by Katsura Koharunaji, who is a famous rakugo performer. Katsura Koharudanji wanted those Scented Sachets to conveyed Japanese traditional fragrance into the modern world. “The devotion in the creating this fragrance make it possible to understand the meaning behind its creation. I think that both through the Rakugo theater and incense we are able to enjoy a fine culture in an informal way .” (Katsura Koharudanji, the Third) ““What is Oikaze?”?” In the past, fragrant sachets (nioi bukuro) were called Oikaze. In Edo period they have been often worn by samurai as accomplishments. Scented sachets have been concealed in the bosom pocket, kimono sleeves, or worn fashionably as an accessory pined e.g. to the belt. Thank you for your kind understanding. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Katsura Koharudanji, the Third Katsura Koharudanji is a Kamigata-style rakugo comedy storyteller from Osaka. He has been performing as a Rakugo theater actor not only in Japan but all over the world at such places as Harvard University or Columbia University. The attempt to show Rakugo play with the use of subtitles was very unique and for the first time has been performed at the world’s largest arts festival Edinburgh Festival Fringe. It was the first time when Rakugo performer has been participating in this festival. Katsura Koharudanji is internationally known Rakugo performer outside Japan. Moreover, in 2006 he was chosen by the Newsweek Japanese Edition, as one of “hundred Japanese people who are respected in the world” and was designated by the Cultural Affairs as a cultural ambassador.
